Sicilian Mafia was not invented by Hollywood

Sicilian mafia is not a Hollywood invention

The Godfather, Sicilian mafia or Cosa Nostra, was not invented by Hollywood. The Cosa Nostra is not a joke in Sicily, they have been present in Sicily since the early 19th century.

There are Italian crime groups frequently collaborate with the Italian-American Mafia, which is itself an offshoot of the Sicilian Mafia. Its members call themselves "men of honour", although the public often refers to them as mafiosi. The Mafia's core activities are protection racketeering, the arbitration of disputes between criminals, and the organizing and oversight of illegal agreements and transactions.

Today, the island continues to work to move away from the Cosa Nostra.
